419. ALL OF US LIKE JAZZ di Liliana Angheluta
I have discovered jazz at 46
years. Better now then never! I knew that it could be a joy for me but I haven't had the opportunity
to listen to this kind of music... We, people, are a little bit afraid of the
new things, we try to avoid them, to stay away. It was my fortune to discover a
jazz festival that took place in a small and antic zone of Terni, Umbria,
Italy. This place, Collescipoli, is a show in itself. Narrow streets, stone
houses, medieval churches, old fountains, high towers and flowers everywhere...Its location, on the highest part of a hill, offers everybody a
beautiful view of the whole landscape. Here, between stones and flowers,
Luciano Vanni, a local businessman, has organized this festival. This is the
second year and it's a great success. Collescipoli,
quiet and peaceful place all the time, was full of people that arrived from
everywhere. Great event! 350 artists, 100 concerts and a hearthly participation
of the local people. There where at least 5 stages in the public places, on the
narrow streets but also in one chapel. Every concert lasted half an hour, so
that one could go around and see many groups of artists at the same time. And
then others and others. It was an exhibition of saxofons; so that I found the
story of this instrument, born in 1844 and “ father” of all jazz music! Restaurants,
small shops...everything was opened at Collescipoli, so that the great number
of people could eat local food and enjoy an icecream! A great organization!
Supported by people, for people, because there weren't used public funds!
And a great music, old
rythmes, young people, strangeinstruments and a huge interest from
everybody, both parts of the scenes. My personal discover: children like jazz in
a natural way! All evening I noticed some
small children that were the happiest in the world...They danced and jumped and
I realized that jazz is the most natural music. It is part of us!
